My brother sent this to me. It’s a good mull.Denver Post: This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of Colorado after today’s snowstorm.WEATHER BULLETIN: Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event— may I even say a Weather Event of Biblical Proportions — with a historic blizzard of up to 44 inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10s of thousands.FYI:George Bush did not come.FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.Nobody expected the government to do anything, either. No Larry King, No Bill ORielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.Nope, we just melted the snow for water. Sent out caravans of SUVs to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didnt ask for a penny.Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is Work or Die.We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for sittin at home checks.Even though a Category 5 blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world’s social problems evaporate. It does seem that way, at least to me. I hope this gets passed on. Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.link

A lot of this material can be found in John Barclay’s essay in Resurrection Reconsidered. The matter of the historicity of the Resurrection is a complicated one, certainly far more complex that trusting four people 2000 years ago. In this pericope, Paul hands down what he calls tradition, and speaks of Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection and appearances. NT scholars who do not believe in the resurrection (e.g., Crossan, Ludemann) rightly point out that Paul does not mention an empty tomb. So, Paul could have referred to a spiritual resurrection. Also, this spiritual resurrection idea relies on Greek concepts of body-soul dualism. Resurrection, for the Jews, was strictly bodily resurrection. There could have been no resurrection without an empty tomb. Secondly, there is no reason to think that the disciples were expecting a resurrection. Even if the disciples did expect some sort of vindication for Christ, it would have been translation a la Enoch, not resurrection. Early Jewish eschatology posited a single general resurrection upon the coming of the Messiah, not a special resurrection of an individual, followed by a long wait, then an eschatological general resurrection. The disciples were faces with the resurrection and then had to radically modify their eschatology (and their theology, in fact). How unfalsifiable is a claim if two opposites are predicted to have the same outcome: Those who expect resurrection see it, and those who do not also see it. So, I apologize for any errors made.Labels: Alex, Christianity, Resurrection

But one in particular really got me thinking, and I found it was an excellent example of how to explain the purpose of great communication - especially in advertising. From page 90, under the heading Understanding and Compassion.Understanding others is mostly a matter of listening to them instead of listening to your own self-talk about them. You are able to empathize and offer some sympathy…I read this and automatically thought of a comment I had seen on Rob Campbell’s blog where he stated that the most important traits a great planner (and great creative!) can have are understanding and most importantly, empathy. The next time someone comes to you with a problem, be it a client or someone personal in your own life, take the time to understand the real root of their dilemma and work from the inside out.

The painter says that Britney won’t need to pose because like everyone else, he can paint Britney’s vagina from memoryFormer President Bill Clinton attended the swearing-in of his wife Hillary in the Senate and said, “It’s a great day for the largest number of women we’ve ever had in the Congress.” Then Clinton said, “And I’ve had more women than anyone in Congress.”Today Senator Robert Byrd, who is 90-years-old, was sworn in for his ninth term in the Senate.

It’s a mystery:A new AP-AOL News Poll finds that while most Americans said 2006 was a bad year for the country, three-fourths thought it had been a good one for them and their families. Seven in 10 Americans feel good about what 2007 will bring for the country, and nearly 90 percent are optimistic about the new year for them and their families.A Washington Post-ABC News Poll found similar sentiments about 2007.
